Interpersonal and
Social Skills Counselling

We are social beings who usually function at our best when we have loving, caring, stable relationships. Often the most distressing psychological issues involve problems with our partners, children, parents, siblings, friends, neighbours or work colleagues. Adults will commonly experience anxiety, high levels of stress and/or depression when there are relationship difficulties.

Allison supports individuals who want to discuss their relationship difficulties, analyse maladaptive behaviour patterns and look at better managing their behaviours, thoughts and emotions. She will help people harness their strengths and learn new skills as appropriate to help them move in the direction of being the best version of themselves.

Some of the common features of relationship difficulties are:

  • Grief and loss
  • Poor attachment
  • Family /domestic abuse
  • Marital discord
  • Parenting issues
  • Separation and divorce
  • Poor self esteem
  • Lack of assertiveness skills
  • Social anxiety
  • Gaslighting
  • Poor communication skills
  • Unhealthy personal boundaries
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Obsessive, paranoid thinking
  • Poor coping with disability or chronic health conditions
  • Perinatal depression or anxiety
  • Neurodevelopmental differences
  • Gender dysphoria
  • Cultural diversity
  • New family life cycle stage (i.e. retirement, babies, launching adult children)
